Members of the community have generally regarded this controller with positive sentiment:
2024: A decent Dual Shock layout controller that is very hardy and should last anyone years, but it shows its age through its stick jitter and its potentiometric analog stick pots. Also, 8BitDo itself seems to have a new hostility toward any sort of DIY attitude taken toward their controllers, whether hardware or firmware. There are better options available from other manufacturers for close to the same price.
2022: It's spectacular for the price, but isn't optimised for Dread specifically, and that comes out in how the triggers and sticks feel.

Love the back paddles and paddle turbo and the controller in general.
The sticks are actually pretty good, just not Pro Controller perfect.
I like being able to use it for not-Switch things too.
I really like the Pro 2.
I really like the profile functionality.
I wish the sticks were better.
I just wish the left stick was positioned like the Pro Controller.
I hate the feel of the triggers. I feel like I'd have to map slide to
L1
to use it long term.
Based on 8BitDo's history, there is a chance that firmware updates could cause new issues.
The way the left stick is oriented on the PCB makes it possible to crack the joystick when performing Screw Attack Short Boost with default bindings. This can be fixed by either not applying excess force or rebinding speed booster to a button besides
L3
.
The company seems to have developed an open hostility toward any attempts to allow modifications of its controllers and devices. For example, their controllers have not been updated on the fwupd firmware service for Linux-based systems for several years due to 8BitDo not providing updated firmware sources, and they have gone without official macOS support for a long time.
This controller's turbo speed was verified on a hacked Switch system with an autofire tester. Learn more.
