Missile weaving, also known as weaving, is a technique that involves firing Samus's beam cannon in the cooldown period between firing missiles. This strategy is used on bosses for higher damage per second (DPS) and helps a lot in the Boss Rush category.
¶ Execution (without turbo)
- After firing a missile, release R and continuously press Y until about the end of the cooldown.
- Fire a missile as soon as the cooldown is over and repeat the steps.
Alternative explanation:
- Mash the Y button as fast as you can
- Rhythmically tap R so that a missile comes out as soon as it is ready from cooldown
- This will let you weave your missiles with your beam shots
¶ Button Remapping
Depending on how you feel is the best way to missile weave, do not be afraid to remap your controller. Below is a remap of the R button that helps some runners weave comfortably while also being able to aim. In Boss Rush, you can freely remap your controller during the run as it will not affect your timer (bossrush runs use IGT), so a remap is highly suggested for the Raven Beak fight right at the end of the Boss Rush run.
¶ Practice
Knowing the cooldown time of missile fire is key to learning how to mash optimally. We suggest practicing on a save file with all the upgrades as you will most likely be using the ice missiles when using this technique. Make sure to practice near a missile refill station or easy to kill enemies.
The cooldown timer will be different depending on what type of missile you are using, so keep that in mind when practicing. During the Raven Beak fight, triggering his counter will cause ice missiles to fire faster than they usually do, so the timing for missile weaving will be different during that counter scene.

- With the Y button held, tap the R button every so often.
